Experts in Sentencing Mitigation Videos

Thoughtfully Produced Sentencing Mitigation Videos for
Criminal Defense Attorneys Nationwide

At Legal Video Concepts, we do one thing—and we do it exceptionally well.

We create truthful, professionally produced Mitigation Videos that help judges understand the person behind the case—not simply the defendant described in the prosecution’s sentencing memorandum.

Every project is developed in close collaboration with defense counsel and guided by a simple philosophy:

“Virtually all Judges stressed that
you need to humanize your client,
‘Tell us his story’, they said.”

Alan Ellis, PAST PRESDENT NACDL,
Criminal defense attorney
San Francisco, and NYC.

Our work is not about dramatic storytelling, emotional manipulation, or cinematic production. It is about presenting truthful, authentic, and deeply personal interviews that help judges understand the complete person—not simply the offense.

Whether a case is in Federal or State Court, we help criminal defense attorneys present mitigation evidence with professionalism, honesty, and respect for the judicial process.

By specializing exclusively in mitigation videos, we bring a depth of experience and understanding that general video production companies simply cannot match.

Why Our Approach Works

“People believe 20% of what they read and 80% of what they see.”

A Sentencing Mitigation Video for a criminal defense case is not a commercial, or corporate video, it’s a mini documentary designed to build credibility with the court.

There are no dramatic musical scores. No flashy graphics. No cinematic effects designed to manipulate emotion.

Experienced judges recognize when a presentation feels overproduced or manipulative. Our approach is intentionally restrained because the most compelling evidence comes from heartfelt testimony by family members, employers, counselors, clergy, physicians, friends, and, when appropriate, the client.

This philosophy has guided every mitigation video we have produced and continues to shape every project we undertake.

To date, we have produced more than 90 Mitigation Videos and are proud to have achieved a 98% success rate in helping defense teams obtain significant downward departures.

Experienced Partners for the Defense

We become part of the defense team, working closely with attorneys to understand the case, identify meaningful witnesses, organize the presentation, and create a thoughtful narrative that accurately reflects the client’s life, character, and circumstances.

Our role is not to argue the case.

Our role is to help the judge understand the life, background, and positive qualities of the person standing before the Court.

“Kudos to Katrina and Wes for another outstanding job. The sentencing video was a hit! The Judge commented in open court at the time that my client was being sentenced that it was a first by him to review a sentencing mitigation video when considering whether or not to grant a downward variance sentencing I personally believe that it swayed the Judge and led him to not only grant my Motion for a downward variance, but to sentence my client to only 1 year and 1 day (he was staring down 10 to 13 years). You two are simply the best and we appreciate your efforts. Thanks again.”

A Flexible, Nationwide Process

Today’s courts increasingly rely on remote technology for arraignments, depositions, and status hearings. That same technology allows meaningful witnesses from across the country to participate without the expense and scheduling challenges of travel.

Depending on the needs of the case, interviews may be conducted:

  • Remotely using secure video conferencing
  • On location
  • Through a combination of both

Our Process

Every case is different, but every client receives the same thoughtful, personal approach.

We begin by learning about the case, discussing the defense attorney’s sentencing strategy, and identifying the most effective approach for presenting mitigation evidence.

Working closely with defense counsel and the defendant, we identify, contact, and schedule witnesses. We pre-interview those selected, answer their questions, gather supporting materials—including photographs, medical records, educational records, and other relevant documentation—and determine whether interviews should be conducted remotely, in person, or through a hybrid approach.

Each interview is conducted with care and respect, allowing witnesses to speak honestly and naturally. We create an environment where credible testimony—not rehearsed performance—becomes the focus.

The final presentation is assembled with restraint and purpose. Every creative decision is made to enhance clarity while preserving the integrity of the testimony.

Your completed Sentencing Mitigation Video is delivered in a format suitable for inclusion with your sentencing memorandum or presentation to the Court. Whenever possible, we recommend delivering the completed video to the Court at least two weeks before the sentencing hearing as part of the defense sentencing memorandum.

“Highly recommend having a video for sentencing hearing. Legal Video Concepts was amazing, truly invested in the process to produce the best video to help me in my most difficult situation. The Judge specifically mentioned that he was able to learn about me form the video prior to the hearing.”

Every defendant has a story worth telling. And we make sure the judge hears it.

Every defendant has a story worth telling and we make sure the judge hears it.

Behind every criminal case is a lifetime of experiences, relationships, struggles, accomplishments, and opportunities for redemption.

A thoughtfully prepared Sentencing Mitigation Video gives the Judge the opportunity to hear and see that complete picture through the voices of those who know the client best.

When done properly, the focus is never on the production.

It is on the person.
